As low budget independents go, and they generally do these days, this is without any doubt the best there is. Subtle and engaging character development, unbridled tension that is reminiscent of the best horror/thrillers to date, and much much more. All from a first time filmmaker on a $15k budget! Step back Hollywood and learn something!

The year is 1999; The Matrix has just been released worldwide. Do you remember the feeling of being blown away by the concept? If you missed that experience, fear not, Inception is no different, if not , dare I say, better. Nolan continues to ‘wow’ us with his intelligent stories proving he is one of the most exciting and important directors of this century (short though it may be). I cannot praise this film higher! Have your seat belts firmly in place for the anti-gravity fight sequence.

Gut-wrenchingly funny! Some brilliantly comic performances throughout but it is not until our bewildered protagonists find out they have been made an experiment of that this film takes a turn for the better. Murphy and Aykroyd are superb and the train scene will make you laugh so hard you’re sure to get stitches! “BEEF JERKY TIME!”

How do you pull off a love story between a 13 year old orphan and a Italian hit-man!? Many Directors would have floundered but Besson’s stylish, confident and at times witty approach answers that very question. Leon, in a word, is fantastic!

Harold & Maude

Quirky and strangely romantic, this movie is a beautifully morbid tale of life. Everyone needs a Maude in his or her lives or maybe aspire to her thinking.

The Breakfast Club

John Hughes was a master at finding the inner child/teen in us all. It is hard to watch The Breakfast Club and not relate to one of the characters which is what makes this film so good. Hughes’ skill in understanding the dynamics of the teenage behaviour and psychology was second to none. Very watchable, very funny and very raw.

A touching tale about public ignorance regarding disabilities, which to all intents and purposes is a timeless message. A film that is beyond entertainment purposes but shouldn’t be discounted because of this. Tales like these are rare and to see them produced so eloquently for screen is a gift.

If Hollywood studios put in a s much effort as Pixar do to their story lines, then public fear of sequels would be a thing of the past. Without doubt a five star movie and a beautifully constructed end to a beautifully touching journey. Thank you Pixar!

What is there not to love about The Fly? Goldblum; one of the coolest actors to ever grace the screen, Geena Davis; prolific 80’s pin up and Cronenberg; the directorial king of shock horror! An all time horror/sci-fi classic! A must own, with the intention of many a saturday night viewing!

Funny, snappy and a joy to watch. You really can’t beat an old classic comedy and for one that was nominated for six Oscars, you really can’t go wrong watching it.
